Remembering the JFK Assassination Through Andy Warhol’s Eyes

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination, the Telfair Museum in Savannah, Georgia, is hosting an exhibit of Andy Warhol’s prints of late President Kennedy‘s image.

Warhol called the series “Flash–November 22, 1963,” and created it five years after Kennedy‘s death.

The silkscreens include a smiling commander-in-chief, a presidential seal riddled with bullet holes, muted stills from the film of the assassination, and images of a devastated Jackie Kennedy. He also created art using the myriad of newspaper stories that flooded the country in the following weeks.

He also included images of infamous alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Sadly, Kennedy was assassinated three years into his presidency during a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in Dallas in November 1963. Oswald was charged with the crime, but was killed two days later by nightclub owner Jack Ruby.
